the woes of a traveler
As you all may know, due to the nature of my job now, I travel ALOT and I mean ALOT. If I were to map out my route with gps everyday, I think I would get a very beautiful graphically-interesting artwork. And due to my poor directional sense, even though I should think that I am improving steadily each time in my directional skills, I still end up getting terribly lost at least once in a week and I would blame myself for being so poor in my navigation sometimes!
Here’s an experience of the week. I was going to travel to Jurong East Ave 1 for one of my home classes and I was traveling from Tiong Bahru. I reached Clementi at about 15 minutes before my class and optimistically tell myself that if my 185 bus comes soon, as it travels down through an expressway which I am unsure of, I would reach my student’s place on time but as I checked my phone, the next 185 was coming in another 19 MINUTES! And I did not have the luxury of waiting then so I checked the other buses realizing that 52 also goes to Jurong Town Hall Road, and it was coming in 4 minutes. So i waited for it, only to find out that 52 slowly detours around Jurong East and after about 15 minutes on the bus I realised we were still at Jurong East! And then we reached the busstop which I thought was the one before the correct stop so I did not alight waiting for the next but after that stop, the bus started to turn and I opened my eyes widely thinking “OH DEAR” and the bus slowly drives into the interchange which was Jurong East Interchange! I looked at the time, I spent about 25 minutes on 52, only to reach Jurong East, ONE STOP after Clementi *facepalm* And so I angrily walked out of the interchange, feeling very angry with myself as I literally brisk-walked to the busstop to take 334 to my student’s place. Thankfully, 334 came almost immediately and I reach my student’s house 30 minutes late. GREAT.
This sort of experience repeats almost naturally every week sadly. But I guess it’s just something I had to overcome if I am doing this in a long term.
